I hate it when you have to ground your kids. But now adays you cant ground from Computer w/out playstation w/out grounding from Wii or Nintendo DS and then the ipod.
I had to ground Meg yesterday for 2 weeks from all electronics, friends and tv. She threw the biggest tantrum (probably related to school starting tomorrow as part of it) but when she hucked a softball at me, First a shoe, then decided to jam my computer with a pen that was it. I actually had to leave the house b/c it was so bad.
Sean is convinced for the next 2 weeks my life will be more hell w/her having NOTHING, but i need to be severe. And the thing is he thinks i wont stick to it. WHERE THE HELL HAS HE BEEN? I stick it sucks but i stick!
I am thinking of giving her a day off for every day she BEHAVES with absolutely NO Backtalk, disrespect or tantrum? but not sure if that will work.

I HAVE RUINED MY DAUGHTERS LIFE
Yes you read that correctly.
Today is the second day in a row i have ruined my 11 year olds life.
Yesterday i made her wear a coat to the bus stop. I mean come on it was ONLY 30 degrees out but i guess it's not cool to wear a coat.
Today, i would not let her bring gum to school. ONE it's against the rules in the handbook. See Sean took her out to Dick's last nite to get cleats and i guess bought this new gum which is supposed to be cool. (I DONT SEE HOW BUT I AM NOT 11)
So when she asked i said no. These are a few of her tween remarks.
You've ruined my life (over gum now come on)
Why cant i be like my friends.
You never let me be who i am.
I dont like your stupid rules, i wish i didnt have rules in this house.
Why do you always have to ask dad, why cant you decide yourself. (little did i know till later that dad had told her no as well...dont try to play us child WONT WORK, dads's always a cell phone text or call away.)
So i calmly tried to explain to her that we have rules, we arent like our friends, and dad and i do things differently than most. Also, that dad and i are on the same page. Dad and I do in fact consult each other on things when it comes to you guys and we come to an agreement together. never mind the handbook, or the fact we being what it is ALWAYS seem to get caught doing something we shouldnt.
So my awesome neighbor came out to say hi to the girls as they were getting on the bus and explained that b/c she was a teacher didnt allow gum.
THANK YOU LAURIE.

Today
Today i've already talked to two parents about an incident (not including or pertaining to my children thank God) that happened here yesterday at my house. Both of which I am friends with but they probably wont be b/c it was between their kids.
Talked to the assistant principal about the fear my daughter has of the bus b/c she drives way to fast and yells at the kids when they fall out their seats b/c shes taken a corner too fast. Expressed my concern that the bus driver text messages and uses her cell phones on her route.
Tried to dispute a charge for online pay, to which they wouldnt budge.
Talked to insurance company about the new upcoming insurance season to which more discounts will be given.
Got my haircut.
Did all my filing.
Did my checkbook.
Made sure the Zlob trojan virus i had last nite is still off my computer.

REPLY FROM EVERYDAY MATH
I know that you indicated that there was no need to reply to your messages and I apologize for not following your request, but I would like to clarify a few points you brought up.
First, you have repeatedly complained that not all the answers for Home and Study Links appear in the Family Letters. Please understand that when you send in these error reports you are contacting the author group at the University of Chicago. We do not have control over certain aspects of the publication of Everyday Mathematics, and one of these aspects is the layout of the Family Letters. While we appreciate your suggestion and will take it into account the next time we revise the curriculum, ultimately this particular item is not under our control. It might be more fruitful for you to address your complaint to our publisher, Wright Group/McGraw-Hill, who controls this aspect of the product. You can find contact information at their web site, http://www.wrightgroup.com. WELL PUT THAT ON THE WEBSITE THEN.
Second, you say "Another suggestion. Keep the Home Link and Study Link numbers the same HOME LINK 7-12 with STUDY LINK 8-1." I would like to check to be sure that I understand what you meant by that. Did you mean that you want the family letter to have the same number as the first study or home link? So, for example, you would prefer that Study Link 8-1 included the family letter as well as the Study Link for unit 8, lesson 1. The current rationale for the numbering of the Family Letters is that the family letter will be sent home at the end of the preceding unit so that parents will have it before the child starts the new unit. ARE YOU KIDDING ME WHERE IS THE RATIONALE IN THIS BECAUSE WE DONT GET BEFORE KIDS. This numbering system was thought to make the most sense to the teacher in terms of when he or she would send home this letter. However, I can see that the parent's point of view might be different. If that is what you meant, we will certainly put your suggestion on the table for future revisions. Again, though, please understand that this sort of decision is not entirely under the control of the authors.
Third, I believe that your problem with the report form was that you requested a confirmation ("Yes" was checked) but checked "No" on "It's OK to email me if you have a question about my report." If you want to receive a confirmation, you MUST check "Yes" on both those items. If you don't want to be emailed, you CANNOT receive a confirmation. This is not a problem with the web site--it was intentionally set that way. UMM DOES THIS MAKE SENSE? WHY WOULDNT YOU SPECIFY THAT?
If you have specific questions about helping your child, you might want to contact our other email address, em-center@listhost.uchicago.edu. That address is the one we have set up to handle questions other than error reports about the printed materials. Again, I apologize for responding in spite of the fact that you did not request a response, and in the future, if you submit more error reports, I will respect your wishes in that regard. YOU SPITEFUL BIATCH. COME ON JSUT FORWARD TO THE RIGHT DEPARTMENT DUH...........
Sincerely,

Don't Cha Hate It When......
Don't you hate it when people know YOU but you dont have any idea who they are.
This morning i was at Home Depot returning somthing and the woman asked me if we were doing softball.
First thought, my Hockey Sweatshirt that Sean had made for me, no that's hockey.
Second thought, is she mistaking me for someone in another town (i've often been mistaken for someone else and they people think i am kidding when i tell them i am not them)
Umm....
So i decide to go with it. Her daughter is a year behind Meg, so then i had the terrible thought, was she on my daughters team that Sean coached? Well ok my excuse is i dont know her daughter by her name and i was NEVER at Meg's games b/c i was always at Ems. I think i went to 3 of Meg's only b/c sean couldnt make and i had to coach,,,,,,blargh.

UNLESS YOU HAVE SUPER CHILDREN..........
Do not ever let your kids sleep over a friends house until they are about 40.
It takes about 2 days to get rid of the absolutely NASTY CHILD you will have from their lack of sleep, so overtired to the point they cant sleep to make up for the sleep they have lost.
LORD HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!

Every Day Math SUCKS
This is an email i sent to the EVERYDAY MATHEMATICS online error form. As some of you know i email these people probably every week with errors or suggestions for their pathetic program.
UNIT 8 Study Link 12 Study Link 8-2
THis is not an error but again when your dealing with fractions and an already struggling child, the answers NEED to be on the sheet. What good is it if they aren't. Nevermind the parents who havent done this type of math in over 25 years.
For Study Link 8-2 more than half the answers arent on the sheet. COME ON NOW. For 8-2 problems 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 are missing. Again that's HALF THE ANSWERS!!!!
referring to the SRB whether it be the book or online DOES NOT help when we need the answers to correct the homework.
In the past i've been told that there isnt enough room on the pages for all the answers. First, make the fonts smaller for either the words on the numbers, second i've seen on previous answer sheets that for example on Unit 7 the right hand column has plenty of space that could have made up for the missing answers in Study Link 7-2 and 7-5 to name a few. That wasted space could be totally used for many other answers.
SL 7-12 the Do Any Time Activities, GREAT IDEA, but to be honest i dont know of any parents that do these. With the increasing homework load parents just plain and blunt DONT DO THEM. Take that out or shorten it if you must have it.
Again smaller fonts for either words or answers would GREATLY utilize much wasted blank space.
There is no need to reply to this. As i've written many times before and will probably continue to write to you with suggestions and errors.
I just cant see how a math program can be sent home in this way. It's actually disgraceful, discounts what answers you DO have on there.
Your also having technical difficulties with this website.
It gives me an error message to click ok (which it's yes or no) to recieve confirmation email WHICH WAS CHECKED, so i had to click no.
which was the 3rd time i'd tried sending this.

Meg's First Sleepover
Meg had her first sleep over last nite at someone other than nana and pa's.
Other than the 2 phone calls we got in the first hour and a half, she stayed the nite.
The first phone call was b/c she was scared of the wind and rain. They live on bogs in front of a pond so there is NO TREES to slow down the wind, and the gusts were up to 65 mph.
She's absolutely exhausted, nasty today, but we made it through.

Snow
SO the kids had a one hour delay this morning, i decided to go turn off their alarms and let them sleep in.
They were already awake, they heard Sean snow blowing at 6:00. So they get up, assume their positions on the couch and meg says, "MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM I NEED BREAKFAST." I said breakfast is over rated.
So i walk in the kitchen she says, "Mom would you mind getting me my over rated tea and over rated french toast stick then."
I couldnt help but laugh, but it went to far when Emily called her an over rated bum face. I still had to laugh, the sound of that just brought me to laughter.

Here are some pictures of the girls............Halloween and their Pumpkins

Here is from their awards ceremony. I taught Meg a firm handshake and after 2 awards the Principal said, "WOW Mom she's got great handshake in front of the whole assembly." Tell me I wasn't proud. They both received perfect attendance Term 1 and Meg also got Outstanding Effort. I mean look at her teachers face giving it to her. She's just as proud.

At What Point.....................
At what point do you not let your kids play with others in the neighborhood. I don't remember THIS much drama as a kid growing up in Quincy. I mean we had drama, but every darn day my kids come home saying something someone else has said, whether it be bad, or what not.
There's a family that moved in not to long ago from Brockton. Sorry, but i still have this stigma of "Brockton" going on especially with these kids.
One is 14(girl), one is 10 (boy, 9 (girl) and the 21 year old sister.
The 14 year old has a mouth.I've spoken to her MANY TIMES BEFORE.
They didn't think i was watching/listening and she's talking smack about another child that Meg is friends with and her little sister chimes in.
WHERE THIS CAME FROM..........I'm not one to speak up to kids. But i was like LOOK your not gonna come over here and say stuff about the other kids and bring mine into it. (EM STUCK UP FOR THE OTHER ONE NOT PRESENT) and i was like my kids are friends with her, your not, that's fine but don't come over here saying stuff like that it's not nice. BUT IN A MUCH HARSHER TONE.
They are slowly pushing people away (other kids AND PARENTS) with their attitudes. Their parents aren't much better, no rules, no morals, no boundaries.
I am about (picture two fingers together) this far from telling MY kids they cant play with any of them anymore. BUT......they are like the only girls in the 'hood. I am thankful that cooler weather coming which means my kids will be in the house sooner and i wont have to deal with this CRAP!!!!!!!!

Did i Just See That????
Ok so today the kids were all playing. All 12 of them. I had to speak to the boys about rough housing with my girls. Not a biggie. I told them if they were going to roughhouse they need to go. THEY DID.
They returned.
So Em comes in the house crying b/c one grabbed her by the neck and whipped her down. She's ok.
Friends of theirs have an older sister 21ish with a son. She's standing at the end of my driveway watching this. Says nothing but oh she's a girl.
I was floored that one she wouldnt speak to her own little brother and two just nothing in general. OK I LET IT GO.
I go in the house, tend to Em, i look out the back and the 21 year old and her son are just swinging on my swingset. I look out and say UMMMMMMM HI????
Is it me or is it rude to just walk in someones yard and sit down with their kid and start swinging???????
Am i over reacting.
I seriously walked around my house for a few before IMing Kel to ask am i over reacting here?
Thank God she agreed with me, but definatly a WTF moment??

LONG SUMMER ALREADY
Here's the scenario. The kids in the hood (total of about 13 kids) have been hanging out. The house behind us the little girl going into first grade. I already have reserves about my now 5th and 3rd grader playing with her, but ti's all good. BUT NOW my kids been hanging with the others and they want to play on the first grader's trampoline. There is anywhere from 5-10 on it at a time. Someone is always coming home hurt. The boys are rough I'll give them that they are boys, but i don't know if parents are out watching or monitoring how many kids. SO............
My girls have been told NO TRAMPOLINE, as well as another two kids they are close with. but now i have the scenario (happening as we type) the other 6 are on it and my two are left out, mad at us.
I explained to them that these others DO NT PLAY with the first grader only to go on the trampoline, other than that they NEVER EVER PLAY WITH HER and they are using her for it. Well i was brought up that's WRONG.
So now i have to bored, and pissed off kids complaining that they are the only ones. They told their other friends they cant go on it (fingers going so fast here) and they still went on it.
Are Sean and I wrong to not let them go on it. I am sorry but i cant leave it up to the discretion of between 1st and 5th graders to decide who goes on and how many at a time. Sorry they aren't capable of it.
WE made a list of some places to go this summer, they include:
The Butterfly Place
Castle Island
Some where then end of Hough's Neck in Quincy near the treatment plant there's a garden and stuff to play.
Library
Scrabooking on rainy days.
A day trip to the Museum of Science
A day trip to Canobe or Six Flags New England with Friends
Nana's

Walkie Talkie's
we got the girls these walkie talkies this is so we can get in touch with them when they are biking or walking around the circle.
Since yesterday they went separate ways we had to get two sets (125) but it's worth it b/c Emily went one way and Megan the other. We changed the face plate on one so they each have their own color and sean and me the other.
They are out testing them now
