Why Do Parents Do This?

As we were taking a walk last nite, Em says to me Mom did you know down in the pits there's a guy with an axe, and he just bought a new axe and is out to get kids?

I asked her who told her this and she said the kids up the street.

OBVIOUSLY it came from the parents.

WHY do parents tell kids such lies to their children to keep them from going somewhere? My kids aren't allowed there PERIOD, no lies, no myths of horrible people looking for fresh children to kill. I will deal with the meltdown/tantrum when they freak out when they can't go there, but i will not stoops to such foolishness (wow my mom uses that......I'm becoming her)

Why do parents tell their children there's a monster outside if it's dark and they want them to come in. HELLO, are we into breeding utter fear into our children? Then we wonder why they won't sleep and are afraid of monsters and boogey men.

But Trae.....Santa....you ask. Well.....

I don't use "BETTER BE GOOD SANTA'S WATCHING" line, why b/c Santa ISN'T. I could say God's watching you and the kids would think more about what their doing rather than Santa watching. If i say God's watching they are more inclined to be like hmmmm, God can see everything I'm doing...I'll stop.

None the less, I've seen the "Santa's watching" thing and it just doesn't work. Kids still misbehave and act up, and what they STILL get presents. Not one parent i know that has used that line actually gave their kids coal. Why would they, but yet they torment themselves trying to get their kids to behave SANTA'S WATCHING.

My kids know there isn't a tooth fairy, or Easter bunny b/c they came straight out and asked me IS THERE A TOOTH FAIRY/EASTER BUNNY and I told them. They haven't come straight out and asked me Santa yet. I will when they ask. I wont lie, but i don't use it to have my kids behave.
