THis article explains what Executive Function is http://www.schoolbehavior.com/conditions_edfoverview.htm
Basically the president in her brain that tells people what to do isn’t. Or like one of the old switchboard operators plugging the wires in to where they are supposed to go are getting all mixed up. In March we are to see a neurologist. The neuropsychologist thinks she might be having seizures. Not like fall down drool ones, but like brain hiccups when the information is trying to transmit from a to b it has a hiccup and goes off course. Make sense now for her outbursts. The information just cannot be organized in her brain. So the frustration level is high.
She said she’s never seen a 7 year old SO IN TOUCH with her feelings and expressed herself as an adult. Also she’s never seen a child do so horrible on certain tests (that made me feel like crap) and she can’t figure how her brain works. SO I said OHHHHHHHH Meg’s got you stumped huh? She hesitated with her no answer LOL. But i know Meg had her stumped.
She also wants her to have another opinion on a speech and language evaluation which we are having done tomorrow.
She’s not happy at all about it either. The kicker is there’s not a single thing that can help this except God healing her. No medicine, or therapy well maybe therapy of some sort to rewire her brain. But her IEP at school is nearing to be reviewed and I have hired an advocate for us. PRICEY but I want someone who knows the laws and stuff b/c it’s so confusing and intense I get overwhelmed BIG TIME.
She’s doing a little better with homework. I have found in the mornings after Emily goes (45 min to herself) she isn’t stressed and got 3 pages done yesterday morning where after school trying to get one page can take up to 2 hours.
Sean and I also think it’s a maturity issue with Meg. This time of year the past 2 she seems to just have everything CLICK and does phenomenal. Her biggest issue is math. She cannot grasp the new concepts and takes literally MONTHS to learn one concept. Like money. We worked for about a month on simple coin recognition b/c she isn’t capable of remembering or capable or telling me what she needs to. There is problem with her cognitive memory.
It’s so very frustrating for me, but can imagine how much more it is for her. I have explained in simple terms what’s going on, and in a way she’s MIFFED bout more testing, but I think in her little mind, relieved that someone’s trying to figure out why she can’t do things. T
She's assured me her brain is fine and working properly (to get out of the tests…nice try hon) She keeps telling me her brain works fine. SHE’S SO CUTE. I keep telling her honey your brain works great I did a little drawing (I can’t draw) of neurons and stuff. She seemed to understand that. She's very visual.
SO that explains the rage outbursts. When we originally went she said she might be depressed. I though a 7 year old that’s depressed LORD HELP ME NOW. But at the meeting she said she’s got depressive qualities but not depressed but again how wonderfully she expressed herself, which leads me to belive she's way overly sensative like her mom. I had to tell her that this child is the usually happy, outgoing, and joking. She’s a joy. The doc didn’t say ADD or Bi polar my two biggest fears. But she said usually I can recommend some type of meds, but in Megan's case I just can’t.
I was having a hard time dealing, accepting, but i am ok now. I am sort of relieved there is a diagnosis of some sort, but there are days where it hits me and i break into tears.
I wish I had the brains to go to school to be an advocate to help others, but my self esteem is so shot right now I couldn’t possibly. Sometimes my memory fails, don’t know if it’s age but it’s freaking me out. Could be just all the stress and stuff.
